About us
The Society was formed in 1968 as the Mayford History Society. We changed our name to Mayford and Woking District History Society in 1983 to reflect our broadened horizons. By 1999, we had members from all over Woking Borough so we changed our name again to Woking History Society.
Activities
Our main activity is a programme of at least 10 talks each year by visiting speakers on aspects of the history of Woking and other historical topics.
Other activities include visits to places of historic interest and opportunities to work with fellow organizations such as The Lightbox and the Surrey History Centre.
Venues
We meet in person in Hall 2, Maybury Centre, Board School Road, Woking GU21 5HD or else on Zoom. The Talks page will tell you where each meeting is to be held.
E-journal
Our e-journal is issued to members up to 8 times a year. It contains articles of local interest, reports of some of our talks and information about our forthcoming events.
The e-journal can be found on the Publications page two years after its issue to members.
